Florida birds sometimes allow for closeup opportunities where the full details of their eyes can be captured with a long telephoto lens and high resolution camera. The double-crested cormorant's magnificent emerald eyes are one of my favorites to photograph... I just love the contrast next to their yellowish-orange facial skin and black feathers.

Double-crested cormorants build stick nests in trees, on cliff edges, or on the ground on suitable islands. They are gregarious birds usually found in colonies, often with other aquatic birds, and have a deep, guttural grunt call.
